Donald Trump Ditches White House Correspondents Dinner For Pennsylvania Rally Mocking Media

President Donald Trump ditched the White House Correspondents' Dinner and, instead, attended a rally in Pennsylvania to lay into the media. The rally marked 100 days in the Oval Office. At the rally, Trump told supporters in Pennsylvania that he was keeping "one promise after another", dismissing criticism as "fake news" by "out of touch" journalists. At one point, Trump also said to throw out an angry protester.

Trump's skipping of the White House Correspondents' Dinner is the first by a president since Ronald Reagan in 1981. At the rally in Harrisburg, Pa., Trump said that the media should be given "a big, fat, failing grade" over their coverage of his achievements during his first 100 days and told the cheering crowd he was "thrilled to be more than 100 miles from Washington." The president said the previous administration of Barack Obama "gave us a mess", stressing that he was ready for "great battles to come and we will win in every case."

"A large group of Hollywood actors and Washington media are consoling each other in a hotel ballroom in our nation's capitol right now," he said. "They are gathered together for a White House Correspondents' Dinner without the president." Trump has attended the White House Correspondents' Dinner before and was famously roasted by President Barack Obama at the 2011 event.

Here are some reactions to Trump's rally on social media.

Trump has recently attacked federal judges, threatened to pull out of NAFTA, demanded payment from South Korea for a U.S. missile shield and considered the chances of a "major conflict" with North Korea. However, Trump lacks a major legislative achievement, has the lowest approval ratings of any new commander in chief since World War II, has seen several key immigration goals held up by the courts and is yet to show his deal making skills can transform Washington like he said they would.

What did you think about Trump skipping out of the White House Correspondents' Dinner? Were you looking forward to seeing him be ridicule? Let us know in the comments section.

Marc Stein Layoff From ESPN Gains Attention From Sports Journalism Community On Social Media

Marc Stein confirmed his departure from ESPN as one of the many people laid off recently. The long-time NBA writer joined the ranks of senior reporters who were laid off by ESPN this week. Stein said he was "grateful" to his audience. Subsequently, fellow members of the sports journalism community shared their thoughts.

Stein began writing for ESPN.com in 2000 and signed on full-time in 2002 to serve as the site's senior National Basketball Association writer. He also makes regular broadcast appearances as a reporter and analyst for SportsCenter, NBA Shootaround, NBA Fastbreak, NBA Coast to Coast, ESPNEWS, and ESPN Radio. He is also the co-host of Soccer Today, a radio show/podcast that airs on KESN ESPN 103.3 in Dallas.

The news of Stein's firing was met with immediate shock from many on social media. Stein has been one of ESPN's best reporters for a while and is constantly at the forefront when it comes to breaking news. No doubt, he will find work quickly but still comes as a disappointment for fans of his who currently watch or read ESPN.

Here are some reactions from fellow journalists on social media. What do you think of Stein's layoff at ESPN? What do you think of the overall layoffs? Let us know in the comments section.

The Fate Of The Furious With Vin Diesel and The Rock Is A Hit With Online Piracy And Box Office

Universal's "The Fate of the Furious" is proving very successful at the box office but it also found success elsewhere. The film starring Vin Diesel and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is also being burning up the piracy networks.

"Fate of the Furious," which bowed April 14th in the United States, was illegally shared 2.1 million times worldwide in the following seven days says piracy-analytics firm Tecxipio. The copies were illegally camcorded in cinemas and apparently originating from India. Though easily the most-pirated film for that week, it was far behind the previous series entry "Furious 7" which was pirated by 4.74 million users over a comparable seven-day span.

Big-budget Hollywood fare, particularly movies and TV shows that skew toward male audiences, remain very popular amongst illegal downloaders.

The Fate of the Furious easily topped the box office charts for the second week in a row in every market across the globe. Domestically, the eighth installment added $38.7 million to bring its total to $163.6 million, while internationally the film grossed another $163.4 million this weekend for an overseas total of $744.8 million.

That means the worldwide total for The Fate of the Furious is already up to $908.4 million, and it will cross the $1 billion mark this week. In 2015, Furious 7 earned $353 million in North America and $1.163 billion internationally, for a worldwide total of $1.516 billion.

Now that Dom and Letty are on their honeymoon and Brian and Mia have retired from the game—and the rest of the crew has been exonerated—the globetrotting team has found a semblance of a normal life. But when a mysterious woman (Oscar winner Charlize Theron) seduces Dom into the world of crime he can't seem to escape and a betrayal of those closest to him, they will face trials that will test them as never before.

From the shores of Cuba and the streets of New York City to the icy plains off the arctic Barents Sea, our elite force will crisscross the globe to stop an anarchist from unleashing chaos on the world's stage…and to bring home the man who made them a family.

For The Fate of the Furious, Vin Diesel is joined by a returning all-star cast that includes Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Elsa Pataky and Kurt Russell. In addition to Theron, the series welcomes newcomers Scott Eastwood and Oscar winner Helen Mirren. The film is directed by F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton) and produced by returning producers Neal H. Moritz, Michael Fottrell and Diesel.

What did you think of the film? Did you see it in the theater or were you one of the individuals that illegally downloaded the film? Let us know in the comments section.

Denzel Washington Killed In A Drive-By Shooting In New York Is A Celebrity Death Hoax

Denzel Washington killed in a drive-by shooting in New York is just another celebrity death hoax. There is no truth to a report that Academy Award-winning actor was killed in a drive-by shooting in New York. Of course, there is no truth to this outrageous death. Instead, it is another celebrity death hoax that has seen people alleging someone like Washington, Eddie Murphy or Ted Nugent were recently killed.

Washington is the former star of the hit TV drama "St. Elsewhere." He has earned popular and critical acclaim for his roles in an array of feature films, including "Glory," "Malcolm X," "Training Day," "American Gangster" and "Flight."

Where did this fake news originate? The "Houston News" web site published on Jan. 27 2016, an article reporting that Washington was killed in a drive-by shooting in New York. You can read text from that fake story below.

"An American actor, director, and producer, Denzel Washington is tragically killed today after being shot in New York.

Around 2:00 a.m., police responded to a 911 call about a man shot in a drive-by on Alabama Avenue street in East New York and upon identification, the victim happened to be the most sensational and highly sought after American movie icon, Denzel Washington.

The actor who was currently one of the most prolific figure in the global movie industry was killed from a close distance by unknown gunman.

He was found dead in a pool of blood strangled to death, police said.

The 62-year-old movie star had been wounded in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene."

Here are some examples of people sharing the celebrity death hoax about Washington on social media.

There was no truth to this report as Washington is clearly alive and well. Instead, the "Houston News" is a fake news web site whose domain name (houstonchronicle-tv.com) is designed to fool readers by imitating that of the legitimate Houston Chronicle newspaper, according to Snopes.

Denzel Washington is quite alive and still working, currently engaged in production of an upcoming crime drama provisionally titled Inner City.

Washington spoke the stirring words of John Coltrane in Chasing Trane trailer. The documentary, written and directed by John Scheinfeld, explores Coltrane's incredible life and career with the help of commentary from celebrity fans, including Bill Clinton, Common, Carlos Santana, and Sonny Rollins, not to mention Denzel Washington, on hand to read writings by Coltrane himself.

Washington had recently found himself at the Oscars where his film, Fences was nominated for several awards. In that film, Troy Maxson (Denzel Washington) makes his living as a sanitation worker in 1950s Pittsburgh. Maxson once dreamed of becoming a professional baseball player, but was deemed too old when the major leagues began admitting black athletes. Bitter over his missed opportunity, Troy creates further tension in his family when he squashes his son's (Jovan Adepo) chance to meet a college football recruiter.

Blogging Strategy That Works: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Content To Attract A New Audience

The New York Times shut down some of their blogs.

The reason was that they "got very, very little traffic, and they required an enormous amount of resources, because a blog is an animal that is always famished."

The visitors "expected us to be filling the artificial container of a blog" with new content frequently.

The NYT have got it wrong!

Blogging is not about feeding the hungry beast and constantly churning out new content.

Strong content ideas need time, patience, attention and nurture to shine.

They cannot coexist with the emphasis on assembly line content schedule.

You need to think differently to do great blogging. Work smarter, not harder.

Reduce Reuse Recycle content strategy

The Vox story: New visitor records by republishing content

In 2015, web publisher Vox started a "refreshing the evergreen stories" experiment by rewriting and updating older articles, republishing them and promoting them in social media just like they were new posts.

In 5 days 88 of these "new" articles brought in more than 500,000 visitors combined.

Some of the articles even got more views than when they were originally published.

Vox did not get any complaints from their audience either.

Nobody noticed that these were republished stories.

People actually found the renewed articles useful.

This was a huge win and a valuable lesson learned for Vox.

Vox is not the only one being successful with this strategy.

Brian Dean gets 260% more search traffic when he relaunches his posts.

Hubspot does two to three content updates per week and gets an increase of more than 100% on average in search traffic from each update.

Search views after update

Reduce your posting frequency by focusing on timeless content

An essential tool in your blog content strategy toolbox is timeless content.

Timeless (or evergreen) content is the durable content that has a long shelf left.

It can be reused, recycled and repurposed in many ways on the different platforms and in different formats over a long period of time.

It's content that thrills, that's as useful, as interesting and as true in a year as it's on the day it's published.

It keeps working for you as it sends you traffic from search engines and from social media shares months and even years after it has been published.

Timeless vs timely content

The nature of content online means that new articles rule, while the old material is quickly forgotten.

But it's difficult to publish a lot of new posts continuously and keep the quality high at the same time.

Better way is to publish less content but make sure it's the timeless kind.

Reuse existing timeless content to get more mileage out of your old ideas

Don't let your best and timeless ideas disappear into your archives never to be heard about again.

Instead of giving up on that old and long forgotten content, squeeze out more mileage out of it by breathing new life into it.

Your how-to guides, tutorials and other long-form timeless content need to be revisited and refreshed once in a while to keep it completely relevant and up-to-date.

Do an audit of your existing content.

Identify posts that get a lot of traffic or used to get a lot of traffic.

Check full details on how to do a blog content audit here.

Do a detailed review of each of these posts and think how they can be updated and improved.

Sometimes new facts, information and ideas have become known that help you tell a better story. Update the article.

Sometimes the site you were giving instructions for makes a change in their design. Update your guide to feature the new design.

Sometimes you may need a better graphic.

Consider changing the headline if the old headline doesn't work or doesn't fit as well.

You can also recycle these old ideas into new formats that fit new and different platforms.

Some people like to read. Some prefer to learn by watching. Others learn best by listening.

You can accommodate them all and expand your audience at the same time without the need to come up with more new content ideas.

When you're ready make sure to update the WordPress timestamp too so your refreshed blog posts get put back up on top of your blog.

Wordpress edit date

Recycle your content in these 25 different formats

These are the simple but effective tactics you can use to reuse your old content by giving it a fresh look and a new format that you then can spread on new platforms:

Content recycling

Promote the refreshed content in social media in multiple rounds

All of the above has helped you to stop focusing on the creation of new content.

Now you also need to spend time and effort on getting your reused and recycled content in front of more people.

Most bloggers just push and promote their latest articles only.

It's a fact that only a small percentage of your total audience actually sees what you publish in social media.

It's a very big mistake and a loss of opportunity if you just promote your latest article for a day or two, and then focus on promoting a new article you have just published.

Don't be scared to tweet and Facebook the article again even though it is only a refreshed "old" article.

Distribute your great and updated posts to those of your followers who may have missed it the first time around.

One tweet is not enough either.

Repost parts of your content regularly over a longer time after publishing your article.

Post them on several different platforms that you decide to include into your marketing routine.

Keep it fresh by pushing the article with different headlines, different quotes or by using different imagery.

Something valuable, something share worthy. Something that can live natively on a social media platform and do the marketing work for you.

Remember this is not you spamming. This is you reaching out with targeted messages that will help people.

Shift the way you think about the blog monetization

The Daily Mail Online and other major sites spend a lot of their time on timely content.

Being first to break the news and reporting on current events and happenings that everyone is talking about.

These big sites sell banner ads on cost per thousand (CPM) impressions which forces them to chase page views.

This is why they publish a large volume of content daily and report on all the trending topics.

They keep chasing visits, keep trying to get the page view count high and sell as many ads as possible.

This strategy puts you as a blogger on a treadmill of constant content creation.

It is not realistic to keep at it for a longer time and it will burn you out.

The better way is to aim to get your 1,000 true fans instead:

1000 true fans

If you monetize by selling your own product or doing affiliate marketing to your true fans, you can step away from the treadmill.

Then you can aim to produce more of the timeless type of content, content that is not perishable and much more valuable than content that is instantly out of date.

How can I create more timeless content?

Focus on topics that connect to people on a deeper level.

Whenever you are about to start creating a new piece of content, always make sure to ask yourself is this article timeless?

Could this content be viewed and still be relevant a month or a year from now?

Timely content is normally short and features facts and information on what exactly happened.

To differentiate yourself and make your content more timeless you need to add extra value.

Share insights.

Give away your secrets.

Focus on the meaning of what happened rather than the happening itself.

Provide fresh views and opinions to the story.

Provide context, connection and the larger picture.

Explain to your audience why they should care and how this affects them.

It's this value that you provide that makes your story stand out, makes it timeless and people can get benefit from it for a long time.

If your new article is relevant today but not tomorrow, it's not relevant at all.

Replace "published at" with "last updated" in your blog's byline

Remove the "published at" date and add the "updated" date in the article byline.

This will contribute to your visitors taking your posts more seriously.

People care about information being relevant and accurate.

If you have an old date in a prominently placed byline of a timeless article visitors might think your article is outdated and incorrect, even though it may not be.

Post byline is one of the first things people notice and I believed that it would give a wrong impression to a new visitor.

The impression of an outdated and irrelevant post, or even worse an impression of an inactive site.

That is not the image you want to give your visitors.

Avoid time specific references

Avoid including specific dates, times and other time specific references in your content as much as you can.

Saying something has happened "today" or will happen "tomorrow" is only relevant for those few hours in those days.

Even if your article is still valuable, people may see it as inaccurate, irrelevant and outdated just because of the dates and times you mentioned.

You’re Only As Good As Your Word: Why Workplace Communication is Broken and How To Fix It

"Communication is key," seems to be the answer to every inter-personal challenge. From relationship issues to a misunderstanding with co-workers, communication or lack thereof, is usually one of the prominent cultures. Communication seems like an inherent aspect of any company culture; after all, it is basic human instinct. So why is it so difficult for companies to get communication right? Unfortunately, communications is a problem that permeates almost every company. Many professionals see a disconnect between company-wide communications missions and standards, and what is actually practiced.

Internal communications can't be an afterthought or a hollow promise, because sound communications practices are a driving force behind employee engagement. When employees feel confused, unheard, or unwelcome to speak up, it leads to workplace unhappiness and high turnover rates – two problems in which companies across industries are scrambling to solve. According to a 2013 Harvard Business Review study, 70% of the surveyed employees felt most engaged at work when they felt that their employers made the effort to communicate and update the company consistently. What's interesting is that within the organizations that struggle to facilitate comprehensive internal communications practices, the external communications endeavors are deftly executed. Employees should be valued as much, if not more, than consumers; consumer loyalty is fleeting and employees are the resources that fuel a company.

Be Transparent

Communications policies have to start from the top down. Whether an organization is comprised of 5 or 5,000 people, founders and senior leadership have to take on the responsibility of sparking dialogue around company progress, updates, and change. When individuals see CEOs and CMOs making the effort to participate in ongoing internal dialogue, it sparks increased comfortability at the workplace. Holding quarterly company town halls in which employees have the chance to speak up and interact with leaders from outside their team is an effective way to continuously show employee appreciation.

Leverage Technology

As the physical workplace changes and more companies introduce flexible and virtual arrangements with their employees, there is an increasing need to incorporate technology that ensures communication is not lost just because employees are not physically present. Programs like Slack are designed to help distributed teams and employees stay in constant contact. Social tools are adept at breaking down communications barriers because they centralize internal conversations. Additionally, in business culture, work doesn't necessarily begin at 9 am and end at 5 pm; employees have an always-on, always-connected mentality and applications like Slack make it easy to talk and share files from anywhere at any time.

Set Regular Check-Ins

Just as it is important for senior management teams to spearhead company-wide communications programs, it is also necessary for managers to establish sound practices within their own teams. Making the effort to speak with each team member on a bi-weekly or monthly basis forges stronger relationships. The more time individuals spend working and conversing with their bosses, the more comfortable they are at work. When managers set and adhere to regular check-ins and an open-door policy, individuals feel heard and valued. One of the worst things a manager can do is create barriers with his/her team. When leaders block themselves off from employees, distrust grows rampantly. Strong manager-employee relations does not mean micro-managing and starting lengthy conversations around every small initiative, because this, too, irks employees. Ultimately, team members want to feel trusted by company leaders and the only way to instill steadfast trust is through regular (not incessant) check-ins and updates.

Educate

Communication is a two-sided street; just as leaders must make the effort to speak to their teams, workers must also feel empowered to speak up. Offering ongoing employee communications training that covers everything from public speaking to presentation design will not only help individuals feel more engaged within the company, but it will also give them the confidence to ask questions, voice feedback, and share exciting updates. Communication is a soft-skill, which means it often gets overlooked. Not every employee is comfortable with the idea of public speaking or client presentations, and it's up to organizations to provide opportunities for every employee to grow and develop confidence in their voices.

No business leader sets out to create an uncomfortable corporate environment steeped in secrecy and tense employee relations. But among the list of leadership responsibilities, including balancing budgets, ensuring client/customer happiness, and generating growth, internal communication often gets pushed to the backburner. Employees are the most valuable resource within every company and initiating company-wide transparent communication practices is the only way to ensure their engagement and happiness.

Trump has attended the White House Correspondents' Dinner before and was famously roasted by President Barack Obama at the 2011 event.

Donald Trump Ditches White House Correspondents Dinner For Pennsylvania Rally Mocking Media

President Donald Trump ditched the White House Correspondents’ Dinner and, instead, attended a rally in Pennsylvania to lay into the media. The rally marked 100 days in the Oval Office. At the rally, Trump told supporters in Pennsylvania that he was keeping “one promise after another”, dismissing criticism as “fake news” by “out of touch” journalists. At one point, Trump also said to throw out an angry protester.

Trump’s skipping of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner is the first by a president since Ronald Reagan in 1981. At the rally in Harrisburg, Pa., Trump said that the media should be given “a big, fat, failing grade” over their coverage of his achievements during his first 100 days and told the cheering crowd he was “thrilled to be more than 100 miles from Washington.” The president said the previous administration of Barack Obama “gave us a mess”, stressing that he was ready for “great battles to come and we will win in every case.”

“A large group of Hollywood actors and Washington media are consoling each other in a hotel ballroom in our nation’s capitol right now,” he said. “They are gathered together for a White House Correspondents’ Dinner without the president.” Trump has attended the White House Correspondents’ Dinner before and was famously roasted by President Barack Obama at the 2011 event.

Here are some reactions to Trump’s rally on social media.

Trump has recently attacked federal judges, threatened to pull out of NAFTA, demanded payment from South Korea for a U.S. missile shield and considered the chances of a “major conflict” with North Korea. However, Trump lacks a major legislative achievement, has the lowest approval ratings of any new commander in chief since World War II, has seen several key immigration goals held up by the courts and is yet to show his deal making skills can transform Washington like he said they would.

What did you think about Trump skipping out of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner? Were you looking forward to seeing him be ridicule? Let us know in the comments section.
